Have you ever loved someone so much that you said, “What do you want? Whatever it is, I will get it for you!” When you said these words, they were out of pure love. You wanted to bless the other person with their heart’s desire. But within this phrase is a demonstration of trust. You know they won’t request something you cannot deliver. You trust that they will not request something that will harm you.
1 Samuel 20:4 Then said Jonathan unto David, Whatsoever thy soul desireth, I will even do it for thee.
Jonathan knew that he was safe in expressing the phrase to David. Not only did he want to bless David and give him whatever he wanted, he also knew that David loved him too and would not request anything that Jonathan couldn’t deliver or something that would bring him harm.
Now consider this, would you honestly say this phrase in prayer to your Lord and savior? Would you pray, “Lord, whatever you desire, I will do for you?” I have to confess, that when I was writing this devotional and asked myself this question, I sensed some hesitation. Why was I a little uncomfortable with uttering this phrase to my loving Lord? Was it because I did not trust him? Was it because I was afraid he might ask me to do something I was not comfortable with doing?
As I continued to have this conversation with the Lord, I realized that I wanted to set the course of my life and I wanted to honor God in my choices. That sounded like my motives were in the right place, but my priorities were skewed. The Lord pointed out to me that I wanted these things in the order that I stated them; I wanted to set the course for my life first, and after that, honor God in the process.
As I continued to talk this over with the Lord, he was suggesting another order of priorities. I should want to meet the desires of the Lord’s heart and let him set the course of my life.
Psalm 111:1-3 Praise ye the LORD. I will praise the LORD with my whole heart, in the assembly of the upright, and in the congregation. The works of the LORD are great, sought out of all them that have pleasure therein. His work is honourable and glorious: and his righteousness endureth for ever.
It should not be scary to let the Lord set the course of your life. He loves you; he will not cause you harm. Letting the Lord direct your life is giving him what he desires. He then has your mouth, your hands, and your feet available to him. What God desires most of all is all of you!
Proverbs 15:9 The way of the wicked is an abomination unto the LORD: but he loveth him that followeth after righteousness.
God loves you dearly and knows you want to follow after righteousness and live morally, but having a relationship with Jesus Christ is much more than following rules. It is a true relationship that can be tangible. It is not following a pattern, it is about trusting something you cannot see. But in the unseen, spiritual nature of the relationship with Jesus Christ, you can still trust him completely and give him the desires of his heart. You can give him you!
You can feel completely safe in expressing the phrase to God. Not only do you want to bless God and give him whatever he wants, but you also know that God loves you too and would not request anything that you couldn’t deliver or something that would bring you harm.
Romans 13:8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.
Doing something for God does not create a situation where he now owes you. You can bless God in a real and significant way with no obligation or expectation for him to return the favor. Just simply desire to give him, “Whatsoever thy desireth.” God blesses you abundantly, but a desire to offer to God to give him yourself and give him whatever he desires should not come with an expectation that he is now obligated to do something amazing for you.
Do you trust his direction for your life? Do you trust his direction for the day? Do you love the Lord, are you assured of his love for you? Love the Lord Jesus and give your life fully over to him. You can trust him enough to say, “Whatsoever you desire, I will even do it for thee!”

Have a face to face conversation with your Lord:
Lord, am I hesitant to say, “Lord, whatsoever you desire, I will do?”
Lord, who is in control of directing the course of my life?
Lord, do I trust you completely, or is there an element of distrust because I fear what you might do with me?
Lord, I know you are good and I know I can trust you. Lord, whatsoever you desire, I will do it for you.

We often talk about praying to know God’s will, and asking for the strength to carry it out. To me, this message goes one step further. Saying, I want to do what you want. Tell me. It is my joy to carry it out.
For me, I know I am in the right place following my desire to do what God wants because my energy shifts, I get tears of joy, my feet buzz.. yes, my feet.. and I’m smiling from ear too ear. I found that joy when I started doing the very thing I’ve always run from people, and emotions. I started first working with kids, and working with people in general in 3rd world countries. Now, I’m doing training in trauma healing so that I can bring tools and methods to help others heal themselves. Again, this sounds crazy to me. All my life I’ve avoided people, avoided emotions.. especially the hard ones.. i carefully selected my career so that I could talk to computers,
not people! Mercy! Now here I am, feet buzzing, laughing, crying, and soon sharing that with those who want to become more.
