#70: Help Me!

In order to survive this life, we must have help, advice, and direction from others. However, sometimes we wait too long to seek it. If you are like other women, you might convince yourself that you can survive on your own or maybe you are too embarrassed to ask for help believing that you might be shamed for asking. For many reasons and excuses, sometimes it is so hard to ask for advice. We have to swallow our pride, we have to know who to turn to, and we have to be ready to hear the direction.

As I started my conversation with the Lord, He pointed out to me how I resist asking for help. In my conversation, I threw out the excuses that want to be self-sufficient and capable, I don’t want to be a burden, and I don’t want to seem needy. The Lord quickly showed me how those excuses were self-serving and insulting to those that do right and ask for help. Through the verses below He showed me how I really do need the hand of others in my life.

The Lord never intended for me to walk through this life alone. I am to reach out to others to help them along; I am to be ready with an answer when someone comes to me for help. However, it is also true that I am to seek help and receive advice from others. This is God’s plan. Sometimes God needs an audible voice and He needs physical, loving hands. He will use someone in my life to be that voice and be those hands when I am ready.

Are you willing to seek counsel; are you willing to cry out for help?

Proverbs 11:14 Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellers there is safety.

Are you facing a major decision? Seek counsel. Are you struggling with something that seems so small? Seek counsel. Talk with a trust-worthy Christian lady and let her be a voice of wisdom in your life. God may need her to communicate something special to you or use her to give you a comforting hug. Seek counsel.

Walking through this life can be very confusing. We have no ability to see into the future, but through the guidance of an older, wiser, woman we might just get a glimpse of the future through her eyes. She has lived beyond our years and she can help us avoid things that we will not know to avoid. God can use other people to give us direction, but we have to seek counsel to hear it.

The Lord Jesus was teaching the Jews and helping them to understand that if they would follow His teachings, then they will grow, know the truth and find fulfillment.

John 8:31-32 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

However, this truth does not fully exist in its entirety within us. We have to seek what we don’t know from an outside source. We need others to enhance our understanding of God’s truth. Wise counsel can reveal secrets and make many things known to us. We should not be afraid to turn to a wise Christian and seek advice and direction.

As you seek counsel, you should be careful. Not every woman will give you good direction. A woman that is not prayerfully following the Lord will not have the wherewithal to give you Godly direction. When you seek counsel, you are looking for a direction that comes from the heart of God. After you seek direction, seek confirmation from your Bible. God’s direction will never contradict His word.

Psalm 64:2-3 Hide me from the secret counsel of the wicked; from the insurrection of the workers of iniquity: Who whet their tongue like a sword, and bend their bows to shoot their arrows, even bitter words:

Be careful from whom you seek counsel. Bad advice can turn you in the wrong direction and could lead you to turn your back on God. It matters who you listen to! Consider the men that went to spy out the promised land for Moses.

Numbers 13:32 And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have gone to search it, is a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature.

Caleb brought a different report and “… stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.” (Numbers 13:30)

One man brought the heart of God and counseled the people to follow God. Ten other men, motivated by fear, counseled the people to turn from God and His promises. We must be willing to seek advice and direction. We must be careful to whom we listen. A good counselor will point us toward God and His ways; she will be in tune with God and encourage your relationship with Him.

Have a face to face conversation with your Lord!

Lord, am I willing to ask for help and seek counsel?

Lord, who are the people that I go to for advice?

Lord, when have I listened to the wrong person and was led away from you?

Lord, help me to swallow my pride and seek help. I know I don’t have all the answers and need to hear your voice through others. Help me to have the wisdom to identify those from whom I should seek direction.
