Have you ever loved someone so much that you said, “What do you want? Whatever it is, I will get it for you!” When you said these words, they were out of pure love. You wanted to bless the other person with their heart’s desire. But within this phrase is a demonstration of trust. You know they won’t request something you cannot deliver. You trust that they will not request something that will harm you.
1 Samuel 20:4 Then said Jonathan unto David, Whatsoever thy soul desireth, I will even do it for thee.
Jonathan knew that he was safe in expressing the phrase to David. Not only did he want to bless David and give him whatever he wanted, but he also knew that David loved him too and would not request anything that Jonathan couldn’t deliver or something that would bring him harm.
Now consider this, would you honestly say this phrase in prayer to your Lord and savior? Would you pray, “Lord, whatever you desire, I will do for you?” I must confess, that when I was writing this conversation and asked myself this question, I sensed some hesitation based in fear. Why was I a little uncomfortable with uttering this phrase to my loving Lord? Was it because I did not trust Him? Was it because I was afraid He might ask me to do something I was not comfortable with doing?
As I continued to talk this over with the Lord, I took a close look at my motivations, and my priorities. I had to admit that serving my priorities and my desires was most important.
Psalm 111:1-3 Praise ye the LORD. I will praise the LORD with my whole heart, in the assembly of the upright, and in the congregation. The works of the LORD are great, sought out of all them that have pleasure therein. His work is honourable and glorious: and his righteousness endureth for ever.
It should not be scary to let the Lord be my top priority and the first thing I consider each morning. He loves me; He will not cause me harm. Letting the Lord direct my life is giving Him what He desires. He then has my mouth, my hands, and my feet available to Him. What God desires most of all is all of me and you!
Proverbs 15:9 The way of the wicked is an abomination unto the LORD: but he loveth him that followeth after righteousness.
| You can trust the Lord completely and give Him the desires of His heart. You can give Him you! |
God loves you dearly and knows you want to follow righteousness and live morally but having a relationship with Jesus Christ is much more than following rules. It is a true relationship that can be tangible. It is not following a pattern; it is about trusting something you cannot see. But in the unseen and spiritual nature of the relationship with Jesus Christ, you can still trust Him completely and give Him the desires of His heart. You can give Him you!
You can feel completely safe in expressing the phrase to God. Not only do you want to bless God and give Him whatever He wants, but you also know that God loves you too and would not request anything that you couldn’t deliver or something that would bring you harm.
Romans 13:8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.
Doing something for God out of love and not obligation is what He desires and is a true demonstration of love. His goodness toward us does not create an obligation for us to return the favor. Nor does our goodness toward God obligate Him owing us favor. Just simply desire to give Him, “Whatsoever thy desireth.”
Do you trust His direction for your life? Do you trust His direction for the day? Do you love the Lord, are you assured of His love for you? Love the Lord Jesus and give your life fully over to Him. You can trust Him enough to say, “Whatsoever you desire, I will even do it for thee!”e!”

Have a face to face conversation with your Lord:
Lord, am I hesitant to say, “Lord, whatsoever you desire, I will do?”
Lord, who is in control of directing the course of my life?
Lord, do I trust you completely, or is there an element of distrust because I fear what you might do with me?
Lord, I know you are good and I know I can trust you. Lord, whatsoever you desire, I will do it for you.
