You have heard it said that a promise is a promise. You also know how important it is that you keep your promises. But the way you fulfill your promises not only affects your family, it also will have an affect on your relationship with your Lord.
Consider two different ways people approach promises. Some people are very cautious with their promises. They do not promise something until they know they can deliver. Others carelessly make promises to pacify a family member with no plan or intention to see it through.
The way you care for your promises will relate to how you consider God’s promises to you. If you operate in the realm that “a promise is a promise” then it will be easy for you to believe and hope in God’s promises to you. If you use your promises to pacify a needy family member with no plan to carry it through, then you might unconsciously assume that God does the same thing for you when it comes to His promises.
Psalm 56:12 Thy vows are upon me, O God: I will render praises unto thee.
Do you have a hard time believing in God’s promises? Do you tend to forget what He has promised you? Confidence. You can have total abiding confidence in your Lord. He will attend to every promise fully. You can know without doubt. Your…Lord…is…with…you!
Proverbs 3:26 For the LORD shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken.
In Leviticus we learn more about the laws governing offerings. When a man is bringing the offering to the Lord, he cannot change it to suit himself or his situation; it cannot be changed to suit his circumstances. Relating this to your promises… you should not change your vow to suit your current situation. If you promised to do something you must do it exactly as you said. This is how God does it.
Leviticus 27:9-10 And if it be a beast, whereof men bring an offering unto the LORD, all that any man giveth of such unto the LORD shall be holy. He shall not alter it, nor change it, a good for a bad, or a bad for a good: and if he shall at all change beast for beast, then it and the exchange thereof shall be holy.
If you promised to do something you must do it exactly as you said. Don’t you depend on this pattern from the Lord? Don’t you want his promises to be exactly as he promised with no changes based on situation? Don’t you want to believe and KNOW that he will do what he has promised.
There is great peace in knowing that God’s promises are sure. If you don’t have that peace, could it be because of how you follow through on the promises you make?
Even Christ’s disciples needed to be reminded of what the Lord had promised. After his death his disciples encountered two angels…
Luke 24:5-6 And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee,
Do you remember what he has said? He has promised many wonderful things to you. Keep your vows. Keep your promises. This will make it easier for you to remember and believe God’s promises to you.
If your promises are released carelessly and can be changed, then you will have a hard time believing that God’s promises are sure and unconditional. If you don’t take your promises seriously, it will be hard for you to take God’s promises seriously.
I can’t imagine living a life where I can’t count on God’s promises toward me. They are my key and corner stone. May you keep you promises dear, precious and certain so you can easily relate to how God considers His promises toward you.
HAVE A CONVERSATION WITH GOD
Lord, what are some promises you have made me?
Lord, what are some promises I have made others but have not honored that vow?
Lord, in what ways do I doubt your promises? Do I believe that you will not honor your word?
Lord, show me where I doubt you. Help me to know your promises and then believe what you have said. Lord help me to honor my promises the way you honor your promises.,,,
